Institute of Industrial Design (IFID)

 

The Institute of Industrial Design (IFID) was founded in 2009 and is a scientific institution of the Faculty of Design/degree course industrial design of the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences in accordance with § 54 Article 1 Hessian Higher Education Act (HHG).

It promotes gaining scientific and creative knowledge as well as the scientific and creative foundation and further development of teaching and study in the field of industrial design.

Here, the focus of design-relevant issues is on the following areas:

  • Research oriented towards and applied to the human being as well as technological and constructive issues in the context of innovative product developments.
  • The connection between technology and human factors.
  • The development and testing of design processes and design methods.
  • The creative and artistic principles and theory development.
  • The scientific and design-based engagement with phenomenons of everyday culture.
  • The development and offer of further education options in the field of the student's core competencies for the scientific expansion and completion of practical professional experiences.

The institute offers a platform for cooperative, inter-disciplinary research projects within the framework of dissertations/PhD and master theses. In order to promote research and development activities and to further develop the curriculum, the institute maintains contact with companies, associations, institutions and other higher education institutions in the field of industrial design.
