Photography has a long tradition in Darmstadt. Here, photo design has been taught successfully for more than 40 years. Many renowned photographers from advertising, documentary photography and art started their education at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and today's students receive multiple awards for their project reports and theses. The professors for photography are members of the jury responsible for the nomination of the Darmstädter Stadtfotograf (city photographer), for the exhibitions of the Darmstädter Tage der Fotografie (Darmstadt Days of Photography) and for the Merck Photography Award Apart from curated exhibitions, the internationally renowned Darmstadt Days of Photography also features a dialog exhibition in the rooms of the faculty. This exhibition displays works by Darmstadt students studying at another European education institution for photography.
